The 5 Star Dance Team competed in Varsity Pom at the Mill Creek Invitational this past weekend. They placed second out of ten different teams. When asked about this season so far, Mrs. Chappelear, the dance team coach, stated the following: “We call this year’s team the ‘Golden Girls.’ They are extremely talented dancers but are also solid young ladies. They work hard and are very dedicated to doing their best. They also work well as a team and support each other.” She went on to note, “My hope for the rest of this season is that they continue to show the resilience and determination they have shown us all year.”

The most memorable competition this season according to senior dancer Darby Gallagher was “our very first competition at South Forsyth.” “We kind of had to change some things,” she said. “It was hard to deal with, but it ended up working out really well.” Gallagher is one of three captains on the team. The other captains are Ella Rambin and Susanna Bunn. Ella said that her favorite competition was also at South Forsyth. She said, “I think that’s the time that we did our best so far. Our whole team was there and our energy was really good.” The 5 Star Dance Team practices three times a week after school, and sometimes they extend or add to those practices, depending on what they need that week. Sometimes they go to 5:30 and sometimes to 6:00. The work put in during all of those after-school practices shows in their performances.

The dancers continue to improve their skills, and Mrs. Chappelear continues to raise the bar. The dance team is currently preparing for yet another competition this upcoming weekend at McIntosh High School. The dancers are also working hard in preparation for the State competition on February 12th in Columbus. There is little doubt as to these ladies’ capability to take home a state championship.
