The winter guard season starts this semester as spring begins to approach; winter guard is a sport participating in a creative performance art, handling props like flags, faux rifles, etc. And the students involved perform with elaborate music, sets, makeup, and costumes to accompany it.
Winter guard coach and teacher at HHS, Mrs. Cook coaches winter guard after school hours as an extracurricular sport, dedicating her time to coaching the students counting on her.
Her students personally think of her as a wonderful coach who has taught them a lot, such as sophomores Avaree Baker and Scarlett Rusk, who both have been in winter guard for two years at HHS.
Baker, who handles the faux rifles within winter guard, described winter guard:
“So far, winter guard is pretty fun. We had a competition this past Saturday,” and she described her teammates and coach with.
“They’re pretty nice, and they’re pretty good to work with.” Following up when she regarded her coach, “She’s good, she used to work here.”
Rusk, shared similar experiences within the sport, describing her personal events with her role of mainly tossing flags within the performances:
“Winter guard has been really good so far, it’s been really great this year. Practice has been long, but we’re making progress, so it’s worth it.” and followed the statement,
“They’re all great. It’s probably the best team I’ve been on, I love all of them so much; My Coach is amazing, Her name’s Miss Cook, She’s our winter guard Coach. And she’s very determined, and she’s made our guard really great this year.”
Winter guard, a performance art regarding props like flags and faux rifles, has been a wonderful experience for the students in the sport taught by Mrs. Cook, the coach; students include sophomores Baker and Rusk, who have nothing but great things to say about both the season, their teammates, and the coach.
