The Heritage High School boys basketball season comes to an end as spring approaches, finishing off with the 7AAA tournaments, a stage of regional-level competitions that decide whether a team is able to progress to the state tournaments, the boys basketball team finishing second in the region tournament overall.
Coach Stoker said, “The Region Tournament went pretty well. We ended up getting runner up to Calhoun. It was a game into the fourth quarter, and we could have won, but they made more plays down the stretch. We had a huge lead in the first and then things kind of went sideways in the second quarter… we ended up 17-9. Really proud of our guys, they worked hard, played well together, and it was a good season.”
The boys basketball team finished the season as the runner up in the region tournament in the end. The generals played great; the team had taken the lead for the majority of the game but unfortunately fell to the opposite team in the end of the match, Calhoun. Though, on the bright side, the Generals entered the state playoffs and hosted a state play-off game against Pickens.
Reid Stoker, a point guard on the boys basketball team, said, “I think we did really well. We got second, but we definitely should have won it. The season went great—we had some bad games here and there, but we had a great season,” Stoker said, following with, “We could definitely practice harder with the whole team.”
The boys basketball team, led by Coach Stoker, made good progress through this season and the 7AAA tournament. The loss against Calhoun leading them to finish 2nd overall in the regional-level competitions. However, the team continues to grow and reflect on what could be improved for next winter as this season comes to an end.
