Cheating is something that almost everyone can, unfortunately, relate to; some more than others. Take pop sensation, Charlie Puth, for instance. The singer-songwriter is no stranger to heartbreak, or infidelity, a fact which he does not shy away from in his music. In his hit single, “How Long,” Puth pairs his sorrowful lyrics with a fun dance beat. The first verse is heavy with shameful lyrics like, “Can’t you blame my head and not my heart” to justify his own cheating. In the chorus, however, he takes on the voice of his scorned lover, asking him “I just gotta know, how long has this been going on?” Fans skepticize that he wrote this song about his infamous tiff with Bella Thorne and Tyler Posey. Allegedly, former sweetheart, Bella Thorne cheated on longtime boyfriend, Tyler Posey, with Puth. However, according to Puth, he was under the impression that Thorne and Posey were broken up. While Puth has neither confirmed, nor denied fans’ claims, the release of “How Long” lines up rather well with the timeline of the Thorne saga. On the other end of the spectrum, however, Puth definitely knows how it feels to be the cheated. In “I Won’t Tell A Soul”, Puth croons over a jazzy beat about how it feels to be the one someone cheats with. With lyrics like, “Darling, I know you’re taken, something ‘bout this just don’t feel right,” Puth begs the girl he loves to “stay here with me” and he “won’t tell a soul.”  He promises that he “won’t judge” her if she does choose to stay with him. When he sings, “Every time one of us tries to justify the situation, we just hold on tighter,” and  “You tell me someone’s waiting for you… but you kiss me again,” he tells how hard it is to let go of something that is, admittedly, wrong. So, is Charlie Puth the cheater or the cheated-on? Or are these really just songs with no real meaning?
