On January 15th, Heritage High School held its annual College and Career Fair for High School students from 10th-12th grade.
The event, organized by Mr. Justin Butler who is the school’s work-based learning coordinator, “gives students an opportunity to be able to look at some opportunities maybe they don’t think about, or they haven’t thought about yet, whether it be a different college or university that they haven’t considered or, you know, jobs,” Butler said.
The event was held in the school’s gym, with several booths lined up for students to visit and learn more about. “There were a lot of booths there,” Emily Woodall, a Junior at HHS said. “It was very chaotic. There were a lot of people.”
While the environment might have been a lot to take in, it seems like most of the students had a good time. Mallory Frost, a Sophomore, said that she enjoyed the fair and the different career opportunities that were presented. Frost wants to work in psychology once she’s graduated. “It showed me a lot of psychology options. I can’t remember what college it was, but it did.”
There were several colleges in attendance. Some of which include Augusta University and University of North Georgia (UNG), which are both public universities. As for private university options, Liberty and Piedmont were in attendance, as well as a few others.
Grayson Brown, a Senior who attended the event, commented on the colleges that were at the event, and on the ones who weren’t. “Berry wasn’t there either, and I feel like that’s a very popular choice for people who come to Heritage,” Brown said.
Not only did the fair have booths to represent colleges, but there were other booths for students to discover different careers or pathways for them after high school. Andy Delk, another Junior at Heritage High, said that “there was a Coca-Cola booth, there was a National Guard [booth], an Army [booth], and a lot of other branches.” Delk also went on to say that there was a booth that talked about careers in Criminal Justice. “They had a deactivated pipe bomb on the table. [It was] interesting.”
It’s safe to say that this year’s College and Career Fair was a success, and students are going to be looking forward to the next one.
