The Snowman Slam is a fundraiser event at Heritage High School that was started a couple years ago. It was originally for boys who wanted to play volleyball for fun, but this year it was to raise money for the school’s volleyball team to afford new uniforms.
The event consisted of several boys from grades ninth through 12th. They competed in a series of three tournament styled matches to see which grade ended up on top in the championships. Whichever team won the first match would automatically go to the championship match and the winners of the second match would face the winners of the first.
The first match saw the freshman and juniors compete against each other. The ending of the match would see the freshman win, which automatically put them into the championship match against the team that won the next match.
The next match was the sophomores against the seniors. The winner of this match would face the freshman in the final match. The sophomores took the lead until the senior class eventually took the lead and beat the sophomores by only a couple points.
The last match was the championship match. This match determined who would be the champion of The Snowman Slam. The seniors put up a good fight, but the freshman ultimately beat them and won the championship match.
“We practiced a lot with our coaches during lunch, like learning how to hit the ball,” said Bentley Harris, a player for the winning freshman team. Harris also said that the opponents were tough, but still managed to get the victory
The volleyball coach, Coach Kari Cooper, said that the team raised a little over $1,000 towards the uniforms. Coach Cooper says that she started this fundraiser for boys that wanted to play volleyball and could do it for fun since there’s no official boys volleyball team.
“We started this fundraiser several years ago because I have a lot of boys that like to play volleyball, so I thought, if nothing else, this gave them a chance to play, even if it’s not like in an official capacity.”
